Shaun Wane shares update ahead of England trip to Australia for NRL Magic Round

Shaun Wane is bound for Australia to get an insight into the situation of England’s top NRL talent. Wane took to social media on Tuesday morning to confirm he was heading Down Under to watch the Magic Round, which takes place this weekend and will see all NRL teams play at the same venue.

With just five months until the World Cup, the trip offers perhaps Wane his only chance to see some of his most crucial squad members face-to-face before the tournament begins. He will also have the chance to see some players looking to get into the squad in time for the World Cup.

Wane shared an Instagram Story on Tuesday morning stating he was “bound for Australia” with pictures of the England branded team’s kit.

Obvious candidates such as Elliott Whitehead, Oliver Gildart and Tom Burgess will be on the bill for their clubs, but the likes of Brisbane full-back Herbie Farnworth and Newcastle Knights winger Dom Young are also hoping they impress Wane enough to push his way into his thinking for The Tournament.

Wests Tigers half-back Jackson Hastings is another who will want to continue his good form ahead of Wane, with Hastings continually refusing to rule out his chances of making the England squad this fall.

England’s one and only mid-season international is just weeks away, with Wane’s England once again facing a combined nations All Stars side. This time around, that team will be coached by former British legend Ellery Hanley.

None of the Australian players eligible for England selection will be available for this mid-season international, making Wane’s trip this week even more important in his process for the event.
